Hervey-Jumper Lab Hosts Interns from Oasis for Girls
Today, the Hervey-Jumper Lab hosted interns from the Oasis for Girls ENVISION Internship Program. The ENVISION internship program was developed as a collaboration between the UCSF Department of Neurosurgery and a local non-profit organization Oasis for Girls, to expose young high school girls of color from under-represented communities in San Francisco to careers in the medical field and to help them build important professional skills to enrich their future.
At each session, ENVISION interns rotate through the clinic, laboratory, and operating room to gain exposure to diverse healthcare occupations. Today, our lab led a workshop on human neuroanatomy and described awake brain mapping. Dr. Hervey-Jumper also shared his professional, educational, and career trajectory and talked about his experiences during his clinical and research training. It was inspiring to interact with the ENVISION interns and we hope to participate again!
We had a great time in the lab (@NeurosurgUCSF) hosting some of the bright minds from @OasisForGirls. They asked great questions about brain tumors, cognition, language, and anatomy. The future is bright! pic.twitter.com/YWWv7rIFUa
