Research Interests: Gliomas, extent of resection, pseudoprogression versus tumor progression, prosopagnosia, mental health outcomes post brain cancer treatment, and sustainability in healthcare.
My research involves work with a stimulated Raman histology (SRH) microscope in intraoperative brain surgery settings to generate histologic images of brain tissue. The SRH uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to score tissue as tumor on nontumor which is then correlated with a pathologist’s assessment. With further data and refinement of the AI algorithm the hope is to eventually use SRH for clinical decision making intraoperatively, seeking to maximize extent of resection which has been widely shown to improve long-term survival for brain tumor patients.
